Dr. Duncan retired from Barton College in Wilson, NC, in 2019 after spending 30 years as Dean of the School of Allied Health and Sport Studies. She has been operating swimming pools since 1978 and was first certified as a Pool Operator on Location by the YMCA in 1984. She has been a Pool and Hot Tub Alliance (PHTA) (formerly the National Swimming Pool Foundation [NSPF]) Certified Pool Operator (CPO) since 1999 and she became an instructor in 2015. Dr. Duncan was a member of a sub-committee for the first draft of the Model Aquatic Health Code and is currently a member of the United States National Water Safety Action Plan sub-committee for supervision/lifeguarding. She is an American Red Cross instructor in Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR, Automated External Defibrillation, and Preventing Disease Transmission and was formerly certified as a WSIT and LGIT. Dr. Duncan also started and coached an age-group swim team.
